White World Oze Iwakura, in Katashina village at the gateway to Oze in Gunma, is one of the largest ski areas in the Kanto region. A gondola and a network of lifts serve 16 runs, from long cruisers such as the 2.8 km Milky Way to race courses used for national sports festivals and the ungroomed upper Expert course at 40 degrees. A fenced kids' area, Rockn Hiroba, childcare, a hotel at the base and a day-use hot spring make it popular with families too, and night skiing runs on selected winter evenings. The season lasts from mid-December to early April, reached by car from Numata IC on the Kan-Etsu Expressway or by a direct bus from Shinjuku.

Getting to White World Oze Iwakura and parking

Car: Numata IC, Kan-etsu Expressway (Route 120 → Route 401), 32 km
Parking: 1,100 spaces · Free on weekdays; weekends, holidays and New Year (12/29-1/3) cars 1,000 yen, microbuses 2,000 yen, large buses 3,000 yen (free every day from March 15, free for cars with 4 or more people, charged until 14:00). Car park 1 about 200 spaces, car park 2 about 900 spaces

Shinkansen Jomo-Kogen Station Joetsu Shinkansen → Kan-etsu Kotsu local bus (Kamata line), about 70 min (about 50 min from JR Numata Station)

Bus

Busta Shinjuku → Michi-no-Eki Oze Katashina Kan-etsu Kotsu (Katashina Snow Express) · 2025-26 season (Dec 20, 2025 - Mar 22, 2026) · Reserved seats, booking required. Busta Shinjuku 7:35 → Michi-no-Eki Oze Katashina 11:15; return departs 16:00. Round trip 8,000 yen, one way 4,500 yen → Free transfer bus to the ski area (express bus passengers only; book together with the express bus). Return transfer leaves the Iwakura Resort Hotel at 15:00
