Ogna Hotaka is a village-run ski area on the northern side of Mount Hotaka in Katashina that relies entirely on natural snow, with no snowmaking. Dry winds crossing Tanigawa and Hotaka and a bowl-shaped basin that holds snow give it a reputation for good snow. From the 1,828 m top a run of about 3.5 km leads down, and the 13 courses include ungroomed pitches, a snow park and a kids' park. Backcountry tours can start here after filing a plan. Numata IC on the Kan-etsu Expressway is about 45 minutes away.
