Mount Issaikyo is a 1,949 m active volcano in Fukushima City, Fukushima Prefecture, in the eastern Azuma range within Bandai-Asahi National Park. The circular crater lake Goshikinuma below the summit holds deep indigo water and has become known as the Witch's Eye, drawing many hikers. The standard ascent starts from the paid Jododaira car park beside the Bandai-Azuma Skyline and Jododaira Visitor Center, crosses the marsh on boardwalks, and reaches the summit via the Sukagadaira shelter in about 90 minutes one way. The summit is a stark volcanic gravel plateau, offering views toward Azuma-Kofuji, Higashi-Azuma and Nishi-Azuma, contrasting with the deep colour of Goshikinuma below. Volcanic activity can lead to access restrictions, so check before visiting.
