Urabandai Ski Resort is a family-oriented hill on the north side of Mount Bandai in Kitashiobara, with views of the mountain and Lake Hibara from the slopes. Three chairlifts serve gentle beginner terrain along the first lift, a 1,200 m main intermediate run and a short, steep advanced run of up to 35 degrees over uneven natural ground. Children can take sleds up the first lift, and there is a kids' room and lessons for small children. Snowshoe treks lead to the Yellow Fall, a waterfall that freezes in deep winter. It opens from late December to late March, mainly Friday to Monday and on holidays.

Getting to Urabandai Ski Resort and parking

Car: Ban-etsu Expressway, Inawashiro-Bandai-Kogen IC (Route 115 to Prefectural Road 459 toward Urabandai), 25 km, 30 min

Train

Inawashiro Station JR Ban-etsu West Line → Aizu Bus to Urabandai Kogen Eki (about 45 min, fare about 1,000 yen), then free shuttle bus to the ski area
