Takatsue sits on the Takatsue plateau in Minamiaizu, Fukushima, and is known for a long, top-to-bottom layout with around 700 m of vertical. The upper slopes collect fine, light snow the resort calls Takatsue powder, best on steep pitches such as the Top Hill course, which reaches 38 degrees. A national-standard mogul run, a halfpipe, a snow park and a skier-cross course make it a training base for athletes, while gentle family runs and a kids' area suit beginners. On clear days the summit looks out over famous peaks such as Hiuchigatake and Aizu-Komagatake, and rime-coated trees line the top lift. A slopeside hotel, a lodge and a day-use hot spring sit at the base. It can be reached from Tokyo by car or by the Revaty Aizu limited express.

Car: Tohoku Expressway, Nishinasuno-Shiobara IC, 63 km, 90 min

Train

Asakusa Station → Aizukogen-Ozeguchi Station Tobu Limited Express Revaty Aizu (through to the Aizu Kinugawa Line) · 160 min · From Shinjuku: Limited Express Spacia Kinugawa etc. to Shimo-Imaichi or Kinugawa-Onsen (130 min), then 50 min. From Aizu-Wakamatsu: Tadami Line 10 min to Nishi-Wakamatsu, then Aizu Railway 90 min → 30 min by taxi, or the extra route-bus service (Aizukogen-Ozeguchi Station – Kita-Nikko Takatsue). Kita-Nikko Aizu Astoria Hotel guests: free shuttle bus (reservation only, by noon the day before)
