Hachikita Highlands trail map

Hachikita Highlands covers the north face of Mount Hachibuse (1,221 m) in northern Hyogo and links at the summit with Hachi Kogen on the south side, so one shared lift ticket covers both. Its signature runs are the Kitakabe (North Wall), a steep mogul face dropping from the peak, and a cruise of about 4 km from the summit down to the village of inns at its foot. After fresh snowfall a tree-lined powder zone opens for intermediate and stronger riders. Gentle beginner slopes and a kids' park make it workable for families, and an onsen village sits at the base. It is a common day or weekend trip by car from Osaka and Kobe.

Car: Kita-Kinki-Toyooka Expressway, Yoka-Hyonosen IC (北近畿豊岡道八鹿氷ノ山IC), 30 min
Parking: Slope parking weekdays ¥1,500 / Sat, Sun and holidays ¥1,800; inn district parking weekdays ¥1,000 / Sat, Sun and holidays ¥1,500 (¥500 off for standard cars after 12:00). Parking season pass ¥17,000 (early bird ¥15,000)

Train

Osaka Station → Yoka Station JR limited express (Fukuchiyama Line via Fukuchiyama) · About 2 h 20 min · From Sannomiya about 2 h by JR limited express via Himeji; from Kyoto about 2 h by JR limited express via Fukuchiyama → Zentan Bus bound for Yumura/Akioka/Muraoka, about 40 min to Hachikita-guchi; walk about 3 min to Fukuoka Yokomachi and change to the bus bound for Hachi-Kita, about 12 min (about 60 min in total). Some runs do not operate on Sat, Sun and holidays. Taxi about 45 min
