Mount Hyōno
氷ノ山
Yabu, Hyogo · Elevation 1,510 m
Mount Hyōno is the 1,509.77 m highest summit of Hyōgo Prefecture, straddling Yabu and Shisō cities in Hyōgo and Wakasa Town in Yatsuka District, Tottori Prefecture, at the heart of Hyōnosen-Ushiroyama-Nagisan Quasi-National Park. The peak — formerly known as Suga-no-sen or Shika-no-sen — carries a first-order triangulation marker and is listed in the Nihon Nihyaku Meizan, the Shin Nihon Hyakumeizan, the Shin Hana no Hyakumeizan, the Kansai Hyakumeizan, the Chūgoku Hyakumeizan, and the prefectural-summits roster, among others. The summit ridge holds extensive iwakagami and Japanese yew (kyaraboku) communities visible from late spring. The main approaches on the Hyōgo side climb from Fukusada Shinsui Park via the Hyōnokoshi or Higashi-One ridges and traverse from Hachibuse-kōgen, while the Tottori side has three trails — Hyōnokoshi, Sannomaru, and Sengoku — maintained by the Wakasa Hyōnosen Nature Interaction Village Revitalization Council that runs the mountain's official Tottori-side hiking site.
