An unstaffed shelter standing at Hyonosengoe (also written Hyonogoe), the pass on the northern shoulder of Hyonosen (1,510m), the highest mountain in Hyogo, right on the boundary between Hyogo and Tottori prefectures. It lies within the Hyonosen-Ushiroyama-Nagisan Quasi-National Park, and the main ridge opens up as you reach the pass. From the Hyogo side it is about two hours from the Fukusada Shinsui Park trailhead, passing the 65m Nunodaki falls, Fudo falls and the Jizodo hall; from the Tottori side it is about 1 hour 15 minutes from the Wakasa Hyonosen Campers Village. The summit is roughly 55 minutes further by either the Hyogo-side path or the Tottori-side route via the Sendani junction. The pass carried an old road between Tajima and Inaba, and in 1606 the Muraoka domain built one of its twenty-six wayside halls here to shelter travellers; that hall now stands lower down the trail at 920m as the Jizodo and still serves walkers as a refuge. Weather on this ridge turns quickly, and the shelter is both the first place to rest after the climb and somewhere to retreat to.
