Asahiyama Ski Area Closed
Official name 旭山スキー場 · Formerly 旭山コース
Nagano
Asahiyama was a ski area on Mount Asahi (1,524 m) in Shiga Kogen that never had a lift: skiers climbed on foot and ran down slopes that fan out from the summit in every direction. Known to skiers as the Asahiyama Course even before it became a ski area, it was served by a Nagano Electric Railway winter bus from 1952. As lifts went up at neighbouring areas, fewer people chose to climb, and it is no longer treated as a ski area. Some still hike the ridge from Ichinuma and ski back down.
