Mt. Kurobushi

Mt. Kurobushi (1,227 m) stands at the southeastern edge of the Funagata range in Higashine City, eastern Yamagata Prefecture, and is included in the Yamagata 100 and Tōhoku 100 mountain lists. Its south face presents a columnar-jointed cliff roughly 300 m high and 1 km wide, an alpine-style wall unusual for the Tōhoku region and popular with rock climbers. The standard route, the Daihira–Kurobushi Course, starts north of the Kurobushi Kōgen Snow Park (Jungle Jungle) and reaches the summit in about three hours. Geologically the peak is an older quartz andesite volcano than nearby Funagata, with beech forest below and low rowan and maple near the top.
