Mt. Asou is a 794 m peak in Hinode Town, Nishitama District, Tokyo, an outlying summit of the Okumusashi range south-east of Mt. Hinode. The summit was cleared of trees in recent years and is now a broad open viewpoint, looking out across Mt. Ōdake and Mt. Gozen to the south-west and the central Tokyo skyline to the east. A hiking course maintained by Hinode Town climbs from Shiraiwa Falls over Mt. Asou to Mt. Hinode, paired with a popular descent to Tsuru-tsuru Onsen hot spring. The mountain appears in the Tama 100 Mountains, the 100 Selected Satoyama of Tokyo, the Tokyo 100 Famous Mountains and other Tokyo-area selections, and is a standard half-day hike from the city.
