Mount Oizuru is an 1,841 m peak at the meeting point of three prefectures — Nanto City in Toyama, Hakusan City in Ishikawa, and Shirakawa Village in Ōno District, Gifu — on the northern edge of the Ryōhakusanchi range within Hakusan National Park. The whole massif was designated a Special Protection Zone of the park in 1962 and remains one of central Japan's most pristine wilderness peaks. Its name, taken from the oi pack carried by Hakusan pilgrims, reflects its long association with the mountain's religious tradition. Listed in the Nihon Nihyaku Meizan, the Toyama 100 Mountains, and the Gifu Hyakusan, the peak has no maintained trail — bushwhacking and steep terrain make a snow-free ascent essentially impossible — and is climbed only during the late-April to early-May residual-snow window, most commonly via the Jirai-dani route from Chūgu-Onsen on the Ishikawa side, traversing Tōga-yama and Tōga-daira. The route is considered an experts-only undertaking.
