Mount Mugikusa (2,733 m) lies on the ridge that extends west from Mount Kiso-Komagatake — the highest peak of the Kiso Alps — across the boundary of Kiso-machi and Agematsu Town in Nagano Prefecture, within the Chūō-Alps Quasi-National Park. The mountain is reached on the Fukushima B course from Agematsu Station, which traverses Mugikusa-dake, Kiso-mae-dake and on to Kiso-Komagatake; the slope south-west of the "Kiba-iwa" rocks below the col has collapsed and is now closed, requiring a detour. It is one of the peaks designated under the Nagano Prefecture climbing-safety ordinance, for which a climbing notification is mandatory.
