Kisofukushima Ski Resort trail map
Kisofukushima is a skiers-only resort, with no snowboarding allowed, and its signature is the huge view of Mount Ontake straight across the valley on clear days. From the 1,904 m top you can ski a top-to-bottom line of about 4.6 km, and the high base keeps the snow in good shape. The eight runs range from gentle family slopes to the bumpy Secret courses and the winding Snake course through the trees, and a kids' park and ski school make it a good pick for families. A free shuttle runs from Kiso-Fukushima Station.

- Nagoya Station → Kiso-Fukushima Station JR Chuo Main Line (Limited Express Shinano) · About 1 h 30 min · From Shinjuku: Limited Express Azusa to Shiojiri (about 2 h 30 min), then Shinano about 26 min. From Shin-Osaka: Shinkansen to Nagoya (about 50 min) → Free shuttle bus about 20 min (daily 8:40 in season, plus 9:40 at New Year and on weekends/holidays, leaving after the Shinano arrives; no return run). Route bus (Ontake Kotsu) about 25 min, adult 200 yen; taxi about 20 min, about 5,000 yen
