Mount Kuroiwa is a 1,503 m foothill peak of the Kujū Range in Kokonoe Town, Kusu District, Oita Prefecture, set west of the Chōjabaru plateau within Aso-Kujū National Park. A short climb from the Makinoto Pass car park reaches its summit, where Miyama-Kirishima azaleas and Tsukushi rhododendrons bloom in early summer, and the ridge continues over Mount Kami-Sensui and Mount Shimo-Sensui down to Chōjabaru. It is included in the Oita Hundred Mountains.
