Shelter at about 1,640m at Kujuwakare, the saddle on the climbing route to Mt. Kuju in the Kuju range of Aso-Kuju National Park, in Kuju, Kujumachi, Taketa City, Oita Prefecture. It stands roughly two hours from the Makinoto trailhead and is a common stop for climbers and sightseers. The building was rebuilt in November 2020 in timber from Oita Prefecture, but the prefecture states plainly that it is a rest house rather than a mountain lodge and that overnight use is prohibited; users are also asked to clean up after themselves, carry out their rubbish, and as a rule use no fire. The adjoining toilet is an environmentally considerate bio-toilet, closed from December to early April against freezing, during which the portable-toilet booth beside it stays available. Because its treatment capacity is limited, visitors are urged to use the trailhead toilets where possible, and a voluntary contribution of 100 yen per use is requested toward upkeep.
