Mount Kuju

An active 1,786 m volcano in the Kujū Range at the heart of Aso-Kujū National Park, in northern Taketa City, Ōita Prefecture. The summit holds a first-order triangulation point and shares the broad volcanic plateau known as 'the roof of Kyushu' with Nakadake (1,791 m, the highest summit of mainland Kyushu), Inaboshi-yama and Hossho-zan. Maintained trails climb from Makinoto Pass, Chōjabaru, and Akagawa Onsen.
