Hiijidake

平治岳

A 1,643 m volcano in the northeastern part of the Kujū Range within Aso-Kujū National Park, in Kokonoe Town, Ōita Prefecture. The summit area is famous for one of the largest stands of Miyama Kirishima azaleas in Kyushu, which turn the entire slope pink between late May and mid-June, and the Kyushu Regional Environment Office of the Ministry of the Environment carries out long-running monitoring and conservation work on the colony. Trails climb from the Otsutsu Pond and Yoshibu trailheads, often combined with a traverse to neighbouring Mount Taisen via the Ōtogoshi col.
