Mount Hossho
星生山
Kokonoe, Oita · Elevation 1,762 m
Mount Hossho (1,762 m) is an active volcanic peak in Kokonoe Town, Kusu District, Ōita Prefecture, and the highest summit in Kokonoe. It forms part of the Kujū volcanic range within Aso-Kujū National Park. Eruptive activity on its adjacent Iōzan vent in 1995–96 — the first in the Kujū range in 333 years — kept the peak closed to climbers until 2002. The mountain is renowned for Miyama-kirishima azaleas in June and autumn foliage.
