沓掛山

Kutsukakeyama is a 1,503 m peak in the western Kujū range of Ōita Prefecture, within Aso-Kuju National Park. It is the first summit crossed on the trail from Makinoto Pass toward Kujūsan and Nakadake, where the open ridgeline walking begins. Its name is said to come from a custom of pilgrims hanging their worn straw sandals on tree branches after changing into new ones.
