Kuju Forest Park Snow Resort (くじゅうスキー場, formerly 九重森林公園スキー場) sits at about 1,300 m in Kokonoe, Oita, and is one of the largest ski areas in Kyushu and the only one in Oita Prefecture. Snow guns and ice-crusher snowmakers keep the slopes covered from mid-December to late March despite the mild southern climate. Eight courses run from a wide, gentle family slope to a 25-degree challenge slope, plus a tree-lined trail, a snow park and a kids' park, with snow escalators, a large rental shop and SIA and JSBA certified schools. Night skiing runs on weekends in January and February. The slopes look out over the Kuju mountains, and Sujiyu Onsen is about five minutes away by car.
