Mount Buna is a 1,214.2 m peak in Ōtsu City, Shiga Prefecture, the highest summit of the Hira Range (Northern Hira) along the western shore of Lake Biwa within Lake Biwa Quasi-National Park. It is listed in the Nihon Nihyaku Meizan, the Shin Nihon Hyakumeizan, the Shin Hana no Hyakumeizan, the Kansai Hyakumeizan, the Kinki Hyakumeizan, and the Nihon Hyakuteizan. The summit gives a 360° panorama, looking down across Lake Biwa to the east, the Kyōto Kita-yama and Mount Atago to the west, and on clear days as far as Mount Ibuki and Mount Ontake. The standard ascents include the Goten-yama ridge route from Bōmura (Katsuragawa Citizen Center), the Aogare/Yakumogahara route from In-tani-guchi, and traverses anchored at Kita-Hira Pass — together making it one of Kansai's most popular year-round hiking peaks.
