Gongenyama is a 996 m peak in Otsu City, Shiga, marking the southernmost end of the Hira Range (South Hira) along the western shore of Lake Biwa. Its summit looks straight down on the lake, and the open grassy ridge running north over Hokkesan and Kojorō-tōge to Hōraisan is the standard hike — Section 3 of the Hira-Hiei Trail, the so-called "Lake Biwa View" leg. Most of the range, including this peak, lies inside Biwako Quasi-National Park.
