Kyoto Hirogawara is the only ski area inside Kyoto City, at the far north of Sakyo Ward just below Sasari Pass, in the snowy Tamba highlands. One pair lift served a winding wooded summit run and a wider middle run, and late weekday night sessions made it a quiet, easy after-work hill for Kyoto skiers. It closed for three seasons from 2000 for financial reasons and reopened with new investors in December 2002. Since the 2021-22 season the lift has not operated and the slope has been used only for snow play.
