Yuzawa Nakazato Ski Resort in Yuzawa, Niigata, is known for its ski centre linked directly to JR Echigo-Nakazato Station, so you can step off the train and onto the snow. Open since 1959, it has 16 runs between 458 m and 702 m, mixing gentle family slopes with steep 32-degree pitches such as the mogul-lined Challenge Bahn. Five ungroomed runs with tree-skiing zones, terrain features, a kids' fun-ride zone and a snow-play park mean beginners, families and experts can all spend the day here. A free shuttle runs from Echigo-Yuzawa shinkansen station, the ski centre has its own bathhouse, and old railway carriages serve as a rest area.
