Ipponsugi Snowpark is a tiny practice slope in the middle of Yuzawa's hot spring town, three minutes' walk from Echigo-Yuzawa Station. There are no chairlifts; a snow escalator carries skiers up a gentle slope about 60 m long with a maximum pitch of around 12 degrees, ideal for first-timers and small children. Sledding and snow-play areas are included, and every ticket comes with a free sled. Snowboarding is allowed only for lesson participants. Lessons are offered in English, Chinese and Thai, which makes it a handy first taste of snow for visitors arriving by bullet train.
