Soyumura 229 Ski Land is the town-run ski hill of Takko, a town famous for garlic; the "229" is a pun read as ninniku, garlic. Cold air keeps the snow dry and light. With one chairlift and three runs it is small and relaxed, suited to beginners and families. On weekdays it opens only in the evening for night skiing, so locals come after work or school, while Saturdays run day and night. A snow festival with fireworks is held each February. It is about an hour by car from central Hachinohe.
