Oodaira Ski Area is a small city-owned hill in Higashiyuri, Yurihonjo, Akita, opened in 1964 and run today by the local ski club. Three T-bar lifts serve mostly gentle slopes, and the area is compact enough for parents to keep an eye on children, which makes it a good first hill for beginners and families. Its standout perk is that anyone buying a lift ticket can borrow skis, snowboards, boots and even ski wear for free. There is night skiing three evenings a week, and a winter festival with fireworks has been held since 2023. The season usually runs from early January to early March, about 25 minutes by car from the Honjo IC.
