Mt. Tokozan

Tokozan (594 m) is a sacred mountain rising in the Akada district of Yurihonjo City, Akita Prefecture. It has been venerated as the training ground of Zezan, the founder of Chokoku-ji, and is the principal peak of the so-called Akada Five Summits (Tokozan, Daizo-mine, Kuromoriyama, Kashagi-yama and Butsudoyama). The standard hike from the trailhead past the Bishamonten Hall at the fifth station and the seventh station to the summit takes about two hours and ten minutes round trip, with the season running from early April to early November.
