Ontake Ropeway Ski Area Closed
Official name 御岳ロープウェイスキー場
Nagano
Open 1989–2010
Ontake Ropeway Ski Area was on the eastern flank of Mt. Ontake in Kiso, Nagano, opened in 1989. A six-seat gondola about 2.3 km long climbed from Kanose station at 1,570 m to Iimori Kogen station at 2,150 m, giving some 580 m of vertical, runs up to 4.5 km and a snow park, and the altitude kept the snow good late into spring. Visitor numbers fell after the ski boom, and winter operation stopped after the 2009-10 season, with the chairlifts abolished. The gondola itself still runs from spring to autumn for hikers and sightseers.
