Muroran Danpara Ski Area is the city's own small hill at the foot of Mount Muroran, and its name comes from a phrase meaning a paradise for family get-togethers. One triple chairlift serves two gentle runs of 450 m and 700 m, and lights keep the slope open into the evening, so locals use it for after-work and after-school practice about 20 minutes' drive from central Muroran. The Danpara lodge has a canteen and rentals, and the local ski federation runs lessons. Open since 1987, it is due to close after the 2026-27 season, when the city plans to turn the surrounding park into a snow-play area.
