Muikamachi Hakkaisan Ski Resort trail map
Muikamachi Hakkaisan sits on the flank of Mount Hakkaisan, a sacred peak above the Uonuma valley in Niigata. An 81-person ropeway lifts riders straight to the upper station, and from there more than 800 m of vertical drops back to the base. The upper mountain is known for steep, largely ungroomed pitches and moguls that fill with deep Uonuma snow, which draws experienced powder skiers. Beginners are not left out: a winding route of over 5 km leads down from the top, and the gentle Usagidaira slope sits at the bottom. Children of elementary school age and under ride free. The season runs from mid-December to late March, about 20 minutes by car from the Muikamachi exit of the Kan-etsu Expressway.

Train
- Muikamachi Station From Echigo-Yuzawa Station (Joetsu Shinkansen), change to the JR Joetsu Line or the Hokuhoku Line → 13 km to the ski area. From 1 October 2026 the Minami Echigo Kotsu route bus turns back at the Yamaguchi stop and no longer runs to the ski area; beyond Yamaguchi, Minamiuonuma City's AI on-demand transport MOSS (weekdays only, no service on weekends and holidays, skis and snowboards not allowed)
