Koide Ski Area is a small hill on the edge of Uonuma's Koide district, a short walk from Koide Station, and one of the older ski areas in the region, dating from 1953. After the city planned to close it, a local nonprofit, Snow Park Koide, took over and now runs it with community support. Three pair lifts serve seven short courses, from gentle beginner runs and a 1 km tree-lined trail to a 32-degree pitch from the summit, plus an area for sledding and first steps on snow. The top looks out over the three peaks of Echigo Sanzan. There is night skiing on Saturdays, and the Miharashi-no-yu Komami hot spring sits next to the slopes.
