Nagaoka City Ski Resort sits at the foot of the Higashiyama hills in Sukyo, about 15 minutes by car from central Nagaoka. Two pair lifts serve four areas: an expert slope closed to snowboarders, gentle beginner slopes, an intermediate run and a sledding spot for children, making it a family hill used for school ski lessons too. A certified ski school teaches on weekends, and parking is free. In thin-snow winters the opening can slip.
