Tochio Family Ski Area is a small city-owned hill in the Tochio district of Nagaoka, 15 minutes by car from the town centre, with the slope just a one-minute walk from the car park. Built originally for school ski lessons, it has a single pair lift serving gentle beginner and intermediate runs, a small snow park with kickers, an ungroomed patch and a free sledding area for young children. Its compact size makes it easy for parents to keep an eye on kids, and it adds night skiing on Saturdays. It opens on winter weekends and holidays, and a day-use hot spring is a short drive away. Outside winter the site is a community field.
