Joetsu Kokusai is a big ski resort in Minamiuonuma, Niigata, easy to reach from Tokyo: seven minutes from the Shiozawa-Ishiuchi exit of the Kan-etsu Expressway, with its own station on the JR Joetsu Line right at the base. Twenty-two runs spread across four zones, from a 6 km family trail winding down from the summit to the 38-degree Obetto Champion course with natural moguls. The Hotel Green Plaza Joetsu sits mid-slope, with a fenced kids' snow park, a sled area and a day-use hot spring. Night skiing runs every evening, and the season lasts from mid-December to early April.

Getting to Joetsu Kokusai Ski Resort and parking

Car: Kan-etsu Expressway, Shiozawa-Ishiuchi IC (関越自動車道塩沢石打IC), 6 km, 7 min
Parking: 3,000 spaces · Annex (P1–4) and shared lot, 1,500 cars: free on weekdays / Sat, Sun, holidays and New Year 1,000 yen for standard cars (free after 15:00); Osawa 1,000 cars and Toma 500 cars: closed on weekdays / free on Sat, Sun, holidays and New Year

Train

Joetsu-Kokusai-Skijo-mae Station JR Joetsu Line (change from the Joetsu Shinkansen at Echigo-Yuzawa) → The slopes are right in front of the station. Winter shuttle bus to Hotel Green Plaza Joetsu (2025-26: 6 Dec 2025 – 31 Mar 2026 planned; some runs need booking by 17:00 the day before)
