Nakasato Kiyotsu is a small ski area near the Kiyotsu Gorge in Tokamachi, with one quad chair and four runs, including a run through beech forest and views reaching the Sea of Japan from the top. It opened in 1988 as Joetsu Kokusai Kiyotsu, was run by a company part-owned by the former Nakasato village, and in later years opened only at weekends, on holidays and over New Year. Falling visitor numbers during the pandemic and the state of its equipment led to a suspension from the 2022-23 season, and it has not reopened since.
