Kirifuri Kogen Ski Area Closed
Official name 霧降高原スキー場
Tochigi
Open 1965–2004
Kirifuri Kogen was a city-run ski area on the Kisuge-daira slopes of Mt. Akanagi above Nikko, Tochigi. Opened in 1965, it was known for steep pitches looking out over the Kanto Plain, with four single chairlifts and four courses, including the 36-degree Komaruyama slope near the top, while the lower runs suited families and had snowmaking. The ski area closed in 2004, and the lifts that carried summer visitors to the day lilies stopped in 2010. The lifts were removed and the slope reopened in 2015 as Kisuge-daira Park, with walking trails and a 1,445-step stairway to the Komaruyama lookout.
