Akanagisan is a 2,010-meter peak in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture, forming the eastern end of the Nikko 'Omote-Renzan' main range between Mount Nyoho and Mount Maru. Akanagi-san Shrine, dedicated to Sukunabikona-no-Mikoto, sits at the summit, and the peak has long been a training ground for the Nikko Shugendo school of mountain ascetics. The standard ascent climbs from Kisugedaira on Kirifuri Kogen via the 1,445-step 'Tenku Kairo' stairway, and continues from Komaruyama and Maruyama along the ridge to the summit. The peak is included in Nikko National Park and is listed in 'Tochigi Hyakumeizan' and 'Tochigi no Yama 150'.
