Kayama Captain Coast Ski Area Closed
Official name 加山キャプテンコーストスキー場
Niigata
Open 1990–2011
Kayama Captain Coast was a ski area in Yuzawa, Niigata, owned by singer and actor Yuzo Kayama, a keen skier who built it to his own vision. It opened in December 1990 with four lifts serving seven mostly straight beginner and intermediate runs. Kayama's visits were announced in advance on its website, and in summer it hosted an outdoor music festival he produced. Funding shortfalls meant the planned layout was never completed, and with better-connected resorts nearby and fewer skiers it skipped the 2010-11 season; closure was decided in July 2011.
