Iwanai Resort trail map
Iwanai Resort sits on the north face of Mount Iwanai above the Sea of Japan and is best known today for snowcat skiing on the old upper runs and through old-growth forest. It was once a large two-area ski resort, but now only the Center pair chairlift runs for the public, serving three easy-to-intermediate groomed runs with sea views. The cat tours are aimed at advanced riders comfortable in deep powder on 30 to 40 degree pitches, with pick-ups from the Niseko area. The base lodge has a restaurant, bar and rental shop, and the resort also runs summer camps and activities.

Hiking up from the top of the chairlift is not allowed; the upper mountain is snowcat terrain, and hikers climbing Mt. Iwanai must register at the lodge and stay out of the cat area.
