Geto Kogen Ski Resort trail map
Geto Kogen, on Mt. Usagimori near Kitakami, is Iwate's big-snow resort, prized for deep powder that piles up on its north-facing slopes. Alongside 14 regular runs it opens 14 tree-run areas, plus ungroomed steeps, moguls and a terrain park, and two gondolas climb to the top. The 2,120 m A1 run cruises down a ridge with views over the city of Kitakami. The season is long, from late November to the May holidays, with night skiing on winter weekends. The ski centre has its own hot spring, lodging, childcare and a kids' area, and shuttle buses run from Kitakami Station on the Tohoku Shinkansen, about 50 minutes away.

Backcountry
14 tree-run areas inside the resort open about 9:30-14:00 from late December to mid-April at the skier's own risk, with helmet and charged phone required; leaving the managed area is the skier's responsibility and rescue costs are charged.
