Mt. Sennin (882 m) rises on the border between Kitakami City and Nishiwaga Town in Iwate Prefecture and is included in the Iwate 100 Famous Mountains and 150 Mountains of Iwate lists as a peak on the eastern edge of the Waga massif. The name derives from Sennin Pass on the mountain, where Kunatoji Shrine — said to have been founded by the Hiraizumi Fujiwara lord Hidehira in memory of his ancestors — stands beside a roughly 900-year-old uba-sugi cedar. A traverse from Iwasawa Station passes the ruins of the Mizusawa Mine (active 1661–1954, producing some 7,000 tons of copper) and historic relics over about 15.5 km round trip and four and a half hours, suiting fit hikers.
