Mount Ushigata

Mount Ushigata rises to 1,339.8 m on the border between Kitakami and Nishi-Waga in Iwate Prefecture. Part of the Ōu Mountains, it is one of the 'Geto Three Mountains' alongside Mt. Kyōzuka and Mt. Kanagasaki-Komagatake, and the name derives either from the cow-like profile of the ridge or from the cow-shaped patterns of lingering snow. The trail begins at the historic Geto Onsen at its eastern foot, and the peak is included in lists such as the Tōhoku 100 Famous Mountains and the Onsen 100 Famous Mountains.
