Azuma Ski Hills Closed

Official name あづまスキー場

Fukushima

Azuma Ski Hills lay on the eastern slopes of Mt. Azuma next to Takayu Onsen, above Fukushima City. Its runs started from about 1,350 m and it promoted the view from its downhill course, with five slopes from beginner terrain to snow trekking, night skiing and, in its later years, a halfpipe; ski-and-stay packages were sold with the hot spring inns. Several operators ran it in turn, but none had the money to keep up with the large resorts built from the 1980s, and it eventually closed.
