Mt. Terashi

輝山

Takayama, Gifu · Elevation 2,063 m

Mt. Terashi (2,063 m) rises in the Hirayu hot-spring area of Oku-Hida (Takayama City, Gifu), facing Mt. Norikura across Hirayu Pass. For most of its history the mountain had no clear trail, but to mark the centenary of Buzen Shinohara—a Taishō-era social educator who carried out ascetic practice on this peak—local Hirayu residents laid out a new beginner-friendly route in 2024. The summit looks out over the North Alps, and at its foot are the Shinohara Buzen Memorial Hall and the Hirayu Folk Museum, both linked to his life. The mountain is included in the 100 Mountains of Hida and the Gifu "Hyakushūzan" list, and is gaining attention as a new hiking target in Oku-Hida.
