Mount Komochi-Gongen

Mount Komochi-Gongen is a 1,677-metre rocky pinnacle straddling the boundary between Saijō City in Ehime Prefecture and Ino Town in Agawa District, Kōchi Prefecture, jutting south-east of Mount Kamegamori in the Ishizuchi Range within Ishizuchi Quasi-National Park. In traditional Shugendō practice, Kamegamori (male and female peaks) and Komochi-Gongen are revered as a trinity of father, mother and child mountains. A trailhead on the Town Road Kamegamori Line (UFO Line) leads to the foot of the summit pyramid, where the "Hongake-michi" route ascends some 80 metres up bare granite using five linked chain pitches, still used today by ascetic practitioners. The peak is listed in the Kōchi prefectural mountain guide (Bunken Tōzan Guide).
