Mount Iizuna is a 1,917 m stratovolcano spanning Nagano City, Shinano Town, and Iizuna Town in northern Nagano Prefecture, and one of the Five Peaks of Hokushin together with Togakushi, Kurohime, Myōkō, and Madarao. Set within Myōkō-Togakushi-Renzan National Park, it is listed in the Nihon Nihyaku Meizan, the Shinshū Hyakumeizan, and the Kō-Shin'etsu Hyakumeizan. The compound volcano began erupting roughly 250,000 years ago and has long been a sacred shugendō peak dedicated to the Iizuna Gongen, revered by Sengoku-era warlords including Uesugi Kenshin and Takeda Shingen. Its summit offers a sweeping 360° panorama over the Togakushi Range, the Northern Alps, and the Shiga Highlands. The popular South Trail from the Ichi-no-Torii Park / Iizuna Shrine on the Nagano City side and the West Trail from the Togakushi side both reach the summit in about 2.5 hours one-way.
