Mount Haruka

Mount Haruka is a 906.7 m peak straddling the border between Sapporo (Jōzankei, Minami Ward) and Otaru in Hokkaido. Once known as Tōyama ('Far Mountain'), it took its modern name from railway guidebooks. Around 1935 ski courses were carved into its slopes, and the Snowcruise Ohnze ski resort still operates on the Otaru side. A mountain lodge called Ginrei-sō, opened in 1932 and rebuilt in 1960 as a Hokkaido Shimbun project, was managed by Tokai University until it closed in March 2022 due to aging infrastructure. Mount Haruka is one of the Sapporo 50 Peaks.
