Otaru Tenguyama Ski Resort trail map
Tenguyama rises right behind central Otaru, and its slopes look straight down over the harbour and Ishikari Bay. Skiing here dates back to 1911, and Hokkaido's first ski lift was built on the mountain in 1952. A pair lift serves five runs up to 1,247 m long, including an ungroomed 40-degree pitch, while a beginner area at the base and a free snow park with sleds and tubes suit families. Buses from Otaru Station take about 20 minutes, and Sapporo is roughly an hour away.
